This photograph is taken from next to the clock tower.

To the left is the wall that divided numbers 9 & 7 Abbey End; the latter was Salumin and is almost totally destroyed. On the right perhaps half of The Globe still stands although the front wall has collapsed. A ladder leans over the entrance to the ‘outdoor’ and to its right the bay window has been blown away to reveal the bar. To the left of the ladder, the chimney stack served a fireplace in ‘the snug’. The rescuers appear to be concentrating on the smokeroom of The Globe and 1 Abbey End; numbers 3 & 5 have been destroyed.
